Sunday morning RFD members traveled to the West Chester Fire Department Training Center for live burn exercises. These opportunities provide for realistic scenarios with active fire allowing firefighters to make decisions in real time with challenges to overcome. These specially designed buildings allow for multiple evolutions to take place resetting the scenario to try different tactics or attack methods. Engine and Rescue 98 along with a crew from Black Rock Volunteer Fire Company (Station 68) worked together to tackle each evolution learning from each repetition. These scenarios also allow operators to hone their skills operating the water pumps on the fire apparatus, exterior firefighters with support roles outside of the fire building and our Public Information Team to capture some great photos and videos for training reviews. Members attending were also given the chance to familiarize themselves with the cascade system on Rescue 98 refilling air cylinders for the firefighters immediately to keep training evolutions flowing.
