Personnel from Royersford and Spring City were alerted shortly after 2:30pm to an active gas leak at the intersection of Church Street & 3rd Avenue. Work crews inadvertently struck a gas line prompting an emergent response to close roadways around the hazard and provide protection to exposures. Ladder 63 from Liberty Fire Company deployed a "Blitz Line" to limit the hazards present and be proactive in the event of an ignition of the natural gas. Engine & Ladder 98 stood by at Church and 4th Avenue working hand-in-hand with crews from Spring City evacuating residents in the immediate area as a precaution until PECO arrived and secured the leak. Fire personnel were onscene for approximately two hours before turning the scene over to PECO.
