By RFD Watchdesk
May 18, 2020

The RFD was dispatched to the 500 block of Spruce Street shortly after 11pm on Monday night for a smoke detector sounding from an unknown location. Residents of Spruce Court Apartments reported they could hear an active smoke detector but unknown from where.

Ladder 98 and Royersford Borough Police responded and found a smoke detector that was thrown in a dumpster with the battery still connected. The dust inside the dumpster from building materials caused the detector to activate.

RFD reminds you when disposing of smoke detectors to remove the batteries and dispose properly based on the manufacturer's recommendations.
