As firefighters and medical personnel, we often say we’re in the “bad day business.” Typically people don’t call 9-1-1 to share good news. Whether it’s a fire, medical emergency, traffic incident, or some other disrupting event in our local community we fully and soberly accept our first responder responsibility. That’s what we sign up to do after all but there’s so much more to the Royersford Fire Department. So many of our interactions with the public are during difficult times and yet there is another side of the department that focuses on community engagement and education .

Whether it’s Royersford Community Day, National Night Out, community parades, or fire prevention events, every chance we get to interact with the community is an opportunity to educate and inspire. We get the opportunity to share we are regular everyday people while showing off some of our awesome apparatus and equipment. Nothing compares to the looks of amazement and joy when a child sits in the driver seat of the Ladder truck, seeing the inside of an ambulance, or putting on one of our signature helmets. When we’re driving along a parade route, displaying our equipment at local events, seeing the countless number of people standing alongside the route to show their appreciation or stopping in to say hello provides a sense of pride in serving the Spring-Ford community. It is a reminder to us why being in the “bad day business” is so vital to our region. A reminder that every time we get to meet and interact with the community we proudly serve, protect, and care so much about — it is a good day!
