Friendship Ambulance and Royersford Fire Department are proud to announce the transition of three EMS providers from Emergency Medical Technician (EMT) to Advanced Emergency Medical Technician (AEMT or Advanced EMT)! These three providers, each attending different training institutes, successfully completed their respective programs then passed the National Registry exam to obtain the new certification level. Advanced EMTs possess an expanded scope of practice which includes the ability to start IVs and administer an expanded list of medications, obtain and transmit 12-lead EKGs, and also secure airways via supraglottic airway. These intermediate providers allow for an expanded knowledge and skill set to elevate a basic level ambulance to a higher treatment level in a time when paramedics and the EMS industry as a whole is experiencing staffing struggles. One of our new AEMTs Hasani Cooper, an EMT since 2016 attending Tower Health's Chestnut Hill AEMT course adds "I look forward to applying my approved skills while caring for the sick or injured people in the municipalities we cover. I am glad I’m able to do more towards patient care." New AEMT Hannah Overholtzer has been involved with EMS since December 2018 and attended Good Fellowship Ambulance & EMS Training Institute in West Chester brings a similar approach to the new certification level. "I am most looking forward to using my education and skills to provide the best patient care I can for the local community. I have high aspirations of attending Paramedic school in the near future to further advance my ALS skills." Our third new AEMT Nate Ameel attended Harrisburg Area Community College's program and has been involved in EMS since 2019 and echoes the excitement to use the new skills and knowledge while delivering patient care. We congratulate our newest providers on their achievements and bringing a higher level of care to the Spring-Ford Community! |
