Members of the Department tried to beat the heat by training near the river on Monday evening. Members practiced setting up Engine 98 for drafting operations which involves pumping water out of the river. Drafting can be used in areas where fire hydrants and traditional water supplies may be scarce or non-existent. Engine 98 then pumped water through a "dry" hydrant located on Black Rock Road. A Dry hydrant is an apparatus which resembles a traditional fire hose hookup which already has an opening in the river or water source.
