Just after 10pm Thursday evening the overnight duty crew was alerted to assist the Royersford Borough Police Department in the area of Church Street & 4th Avenue. Engine 98 responded to discover a commercial grade aerial firework had been discharged and landed on the roof of an adjacent church building sparking a small fire and causing damage. Fire personnel quickly mitigated the hazard and ensured there were no other immediate fire threats in the area. As a reminder, the Borough Code states fireworks cannot be discharged within 150 feet of any structure (occupied or unoccupied) making essentially the entire borough off-limits. This situation had the potential to turn into a tragedy with possibly devastating effects for not only the building but the community as a whole. Please understand and be mindful of the hazards associated with fireworks and discharging them in residential settings.
