In 2017 Royersford Fire Department and Friendship Ambulance sought out a disinfectant system to be used in ambulances and emergency apparatus to ensure the Spring-Ford Community is given the cleanest environment possible when being treated and transported by our providers. The Department met with representatives of Halosil International and were immediately impressed with their HaloFogger system which at that time was being used in hospital settings such as operating rooms and other essential sterile environments. Working with Halosil International expressing the specific needs and concerns for EMS the team developed a flexible nozzle which could be mounted on a flat surface or window allowing smaller areas to be safely and effectively disinfected by filling an enclosed space with a mist which disinfects but is also safe for electronics and medical equipment. Friendship Ambulance was the first EMS organization in the country to take delivery of this system and for almost three years RFD apparatus have been disinfected on a rotating schedule or when our crews encounter a patient who may have any type of transmittable condition. With the recent outbreak of the COVID-19 virus (Coronavirus) RFD has been contacted by several organizations including other EMS squads, fire departments, and police agencies inquiring about the system. In these uncertain times we stand by our commitment to not only the Spring-Ford region but our neighbors to ensure we as an Emergency Service community are doing everything possible for our providers and patients. Royersford Fire Department & Friendship Ambulance are proud to be the first in the nation to utilize this system and humbled to be in a position to help our friends and fellow responders to ensure everyone goes home safe and healthy. |
