Shortly before 12:30pm, RFD Fire and EMS units along with Upper Providence Township Fire & Emergency Services and Black Rock Volunteer Fire Company were alerted to an auto accident on Route 422 Eastbound in the area of the Route 29 interchange. An off-duty police officer arrived on location and advised two box trucks had collided and one occupant was unable to get out without assistance. This report upgraded the assignment to an Auto Accident with Entrapment adding Rescue 34 from Collegeville Fire Company and Rescue 53 from Lower Providence Fire Company for assistance. An additional ambulance was also requested adding Lower Providence EMS.

Moderate rainfall, soft ground, and the box truck coming to rest on a significant angle added to the challenges to safely extricate the patients from the vehicle. Support struts were used to stabilize the truck and prevent it from rolling over due to the high center of gravity. The entrapped patient was extricated using a long spine board and a Stokes basket due to the muddy, hilly terrain. All occupants were transported to local hospitals for continuing treatment and care.

All lanes of 422 Eastbound were closed for a period of time at Route 29 during operations.
