With Engine 98 on the cusp of being delivered, we wanted to take a look back at the construction of Ladder 98. Our 2016 Pierce PUC Heavy Duty Ladder boosts a 105' aerial ladder with a 1500 gallon per minute pump. Carrying 500 gallons of water, Ladder 98 can take on multiple roles when arriving onscene of a fire. Lighting up the area is no problem with a 10kW Smart Power Hydraulic generator, a Hi-Viz visor scene light, and Whelen pioneer scene lights lining the sides of the truck. Powered by a Detroit Diesel DD13 525 hp resting on an OshKosh TAK-4 Front Suspension with the dynamic OskKosh TAK4 T3 Rear Steer & Suspension the truck can navigate some areas where traditional ladder trucks can not. Safety is top priority with multiple safety systems in place including side roll & frontal impact protection, a 360° Camera system for 100% external visual coverage, and ladder rung safety lighting. A tip of our hat to Past Fire Chief Gary Wezel for compiling these photos. |
