Early Sunday Morning Accident on 422

Just before 7am the department was alerted to an auto accident on Route 422 Eastbound near the Old State Road underpass. Chief 98 (G. Wezel) and MICU 325-3 arrived onscene to find one vehicle in the median guide wires with the driver of the vehicle experiencing a medical emergency. Rescue 98 responded with a crew of four and positioned the truck to block the left lane of the highway providing a safe working area. Additionally Utility 98 responded and setup in an "advanced warning" position approximately 100 yards away from the scene to slow traffic. Also responding to assist was the Black Rock Volunteer Fire Company (Station 99) who blocked and slowed traffic on the westbound side of the incident as well as Trappe Fire Company EMS. The driver was transported to a local hospital for evaluation and continuing care by Friendship crews. The scene was turned over to Pennsylvania State Police shortly after and all fire units cleared the highway.
